Tier 2 extension processing time

Tier 2 extension processing time

If you are approaching the end of your initial visa term for your Tier 2 General Visa you may now be thinking it is time to extend the term with a view to gaining your 5 years as necessary to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain. We have created this document as a guide to the extension process and we’ll give you an idea of cost and processing time for the Tier 2 General Visa extension.

How much does it cost to extend a Tier 2 General Visa?

It costs £677 to extend a Tier 2 General Visa and this cost is for the application only and doesn’t cover any other sundry items that might be required such as a new Biometric Residence Permit (which costs £19.20). This is for an extension of up to 5 years (but you cannot exceed a total of 6 years on a Tier 2 General Visa).

Do I need another certificate of sponsorship to extend my Tier 2 Visa?

No, as long as you still work for the same employer that sponsored you on your original application and have the same job then you should be fine. You will also need to still be earning at least the minimum salary as required by the process.

How long does processing take for a Tier 2 General visa extension?

Much like any other visa application for the UK, the standard wait time is around eight weeks. This is an average time and is based on an online application. It is no guarantee that your application will be processed at that time. You will need to ensure that you have left more than enough time before your current visa runs out to ensure that your application has the best chance of success.

There is also a “Priority Service” that allows your application to be processed in 10 days and this comes at an enhanced cost you £1,136 per applicant. You will still need to pay for your Biometric Residence Permit also.

How do I apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain?

If you have now completed 5 years in the UK on your Tier 2 General Visa you will more than likely be entitled to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain – you will need to ensure that you have stayed in the country for the vast majority of that time as significant gaps may count against you. As long as you can satisfy the criteria you will be able to apply.
